An official website has gone live for Cyborg 009 vs Devilman, a rather unexpected crossover anime that features characters from Shotaro Ishinomori’s Cyborg 009 and Go Nagai’s Devilman.
Directed by Jun Kawagoe at animation studios Bee Media and Actas, the three episode OVA will see a limited cinema release in Japan this October, followed by a DVD and Blu-ray release in November.
Cyborg 009 began as a manga in the 1960s and told of Joe Shimamura, one of nine humans who are kidnapped and experimented on by the Black Ghost organisation. Left with enhancements, such as strength and speed, he uses his new abilites to put a stop to Black Ghost. The Devilman manga was initially published in the 1970s and focused on Akira Fudō, whose world changes when he is introduced to a demonic mask that allows him to transform into Devilman, allowing him the ability to fight other demons.
Plot details are thin as to what brings these two together, though the tagline on the poster reads, “Who will survive…?” suggesting that only one will be left standing at the end.
