Universal Pictures has released the first synopsis for The Mummy, the Tom Cruise-starring film that will be kicking off the studio’s shared Monsters Universe (with Wolfman, Doctor Jekyll And Mr Hyde and The Invisible Man movies also hotly tipped):
We’ve unwrapped the synopsis (see what we did there) and this is what we discovered: “Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
“From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”
Directed by Alex Kurtzman, who’s overseeing the shared Monsters Universe for Universal with Chris Morgan, The Mummy also stars Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and Courtney B Vance. The Mummy premieres in June 2017 with another Monsterverse movie set for April 2018 and a third on 15 February 2019.
