While Marvel is dragging its feet when it comes to a female-fronted superhero movie, DC has is filling the hole the market nicely. Wonder Woman is due next year, but now The Hollywood Reporter brings news that Warner Bros is developing a movie that will feature Suicide Squad’s Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie) and a whole bunch of other major female DC characters.
This could include the likes of Batgirl and the Birds Of Prey. The studio is currently staying tight-lipped about the project and not confirming which characters will appear in the film or who is even writing, though it is reportedly a female screenwriter.
Apparently Robbie was the springboard for the project, having discovered and fallen in love with a whole load of DC’s female characters in her research for the role of Harley Quinn. Robbie invited a writer to develop the project and it was promptly picked up by the studio for development.
Suicide Squad is due for release in the UK on 5 August.
