In the aftermath of a shocking Sleepy Hollow series three finale that saw the show lose its female lead Nicole Behari (Abbie Mills), Tom Mison took to the MCM stage and was immediately hit with a number of questions regarding the on-screen death of his leading lady. Mison and the other cast members did not learn how series three would end until an episode or two before it was filmed. The final scene the co-stars shot together was in the archives where Abbie took Ichabod by the hand to lead him out to the porch where they’d spend their final moments together.
Mison has maintained his unassuming self-deprecation on his journey from being cast on the show onwards. The audition was a gruelling five hours long, with three of those hours being alone with the show-runners and the other two were spent with Nicole. Afterwards, he assumed he wouldn’t be cast but received a call from his agent just one hour after leaving the audition to learn he’d been cast. Two weeks later, he was filming the pilot.
Sleepy Hollow has undergone a repeated set of metamorphoses. Mison describes the first series as horror, the second as a supernatural family drama, and the third more of a procedural show with weekly monster foes to be vanquished. Series three also saw a surprising crossover between Sleepy Hollow and the procedural crime drama Bones. Though Mison originally thought the crossover was a bad idea, he ended up coming away from the experience with it being one of his favourite episodes of the season. The top quality Bones catering was simply an added bonus.
Though the show appears ripe for yet another overhaul, Mison can only speculate as to what will happen next. It’s possible that the show could relocate its setting to DC. Jenny Mills may become the show’s female lead, which may prove difficult for Mison and Lyndie Greenwood (Jenny Mills) as the two have frequently gone out of their way to make each other laugh when filming scenes together and are able to accomplish this with ease.
Mison is aware of the public backlash to the season finale but is eager to see what the writers will come with to try to win people back over. The electric chemistry between Mison and Behari made it all the more difficult for fans to accept the ill fate of Abbie Mills. But when asked about the happy-ending-that-never-was, Mison quips that had Abbie not met her demise she and Ichabod would have had loads of babies, all daughters, and all named Ichabod.
