Netflix has released the first clip from its new animated Voltron Legendary Defender series featuring exactly what you want to see from the first clip from any new Voltron series: Voltron being formed. It does take some time, though… any villainous giant robot bruising for a fight is going to have to be patient. But it’s suitably impressive. And we’re loving the split-screen work, too!
Netflix has also revealed a sizzle reel for the show (sizzle reel meaning: “random footage we can’t be arsed to edit into a proper trailer, but it looks cool anyway”).
The voice for the new show includes: Kimberly Brooks as Princess Allura; Rhys Darby as Coran; Josh Keaton as Shiro, Black Lion; Tyler Labine as Hunk, Yellow; Jeremy Shada (of Adventure Time fame) as Lance, Blue Lion; Bex Taylor-Klaus as Pidge, Green Lion; and Steven Yeun as Keith, Red Lion.
The original Voltron series, which aired in the United States from 1984-5, was based on the Japanese animes Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. Various reboots have happened since then, the most recent before this one being on Nickelodeon in 2011. Voltron: Legendary Defender will debut in full on Netflix on June 10, 2016.
