Hoechlin will be the first live-action TV incarnation Superman/Clark Kent since Smallville’s Tom Welling bowed out in 2011.
Superman will make his debut in the Arrowverse (which also includes The Flash, Arrow and Legends Of Tomorrow) in the first two episodes of Supergirl, which in the US has now moved to the CW to be with its stablemates. He’ll be visiting National City to see cousin Kara.
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” says Andrew Kreisberg, executive producer of Supergirl. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Hoechlin also had a starring role in Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some! Previous credits include Road To Perdition, Hall Pass and Solstice.
