Talk about glamorous grannies. Maisie Richardson-Sellers, who had a small role as rebel officer Korr Sella in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, has been chosen to play the new Vixen in DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow. Though actually she’s the old Vixen, as she’ll be playing an ancestor of the existing, present-day Vixen in the Arrowverse.
Richardson-Sellers will play Amaya Jiwe, grandmother of Megalyn Echikunwoke’s Mari McCabe the current Vixen. Echikunwoke was unable to appear as a regular on Legends Of Tomorrow owing to work commitments. However, thanks to the fact that Vixen’s animal-related powers are a gift handed down through generations, and the time travel nature of Legends Of Tomorrow, this means a former version on Vixen – Maisie Richardson-Sellers’ Amaya Jiwe – can appear instead.
Legends Of Tomorrow will feature a significantly different line-up for the central team, with the Hawks having departed and Captain Cold now a recurring character with the potential to appear across all the Arrowverse shows. Aside from Vixen, we know that Hourman will be joining the show having made a cameo in the season one finale, plus the Justice Society of America will be involved in some capacity.
Producers have not ruled out further live action appearances from Megalyn Echikunwoke’s Vixen, however. Echikunwoke voices Vixen in the animated series and appeared in the flash in the season three Arrow episode “Taken”.
