Entertainment Weekly has revealed some first-look new images from director Nikolaj Arcel’s movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, one featuring Idris Elba as Gunslinger Roland Deschain while another shows us Matthew McConaughey as Walter, The Man In Black, the villain of the piece. (How come villains are never The Man In Magenta or the Man In Beige?) Click/tap on the images for larger versions.
EW also has a lot of information about the the film, including interviews with both stars and a lot of spoilery information so click on the link above at your peril. Even if you’ve read the books, because apparently, the film (or films – they seem pretty confident of sequels) are no straightforward adaptations; in fact, they could almost be regarded as sequels that mix and match elements from all the books. As Stephen King himself says, “They sent me a number of different drafts and it came into focus, let’s put it that way… I’m 100% behind it — which doesn’t mean it necessarily will work, just that it’s a good way to try and to get into these stories.”
In other words, expect lots of fan outrage!
The articles also reveal that Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Preacher) is playing Richard Sayre, the “ambassador” of the Dixie Pig, a New York City way station between worlds where monsters and creatures can take on human guises before entering our realm.
