Alcon Entertainment has released two pieces of official Blade Runner sequel concept art via Entertainment Weekly. The piece above by Victor Martinez (who’s also worked on Star Trek Into Darkness, Terminator Genisys and Avatar) certainly has a Syd Mead (the lead concept artist on the original Blade Runner) vibe about it.
The setting is once again a future Los Angeles, but a Los Angeles that had expanded to cover most of the West Coast of the US. “The climate has gone berserk — the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” says sequel director Denis Villeneuve. The vehicle pictured in this exclusive concept art from the sequel is a kind of snow blower that hovers over the streets and destroys snow. He laughs. “It’s a Canadian wet dream!”
