Former Doctor Who actor and Little Britain narrator Tom Baker will voice a pivotal character in the upcoming third season of Star Wars: Rebels, it was revealed at the Star Wars Celebration Europe at the weekend, where the trailer for the new season was premiered.
Baker voices a huge character named Bendu, who is described as the “middle way of the Force” – not Dark Side or Light Side, he’s “something else, a force of nature.” He can be seen towards the end of the trailer. The term “Jedi Bendu” appeared in George Lucas’ early drafts Star Wars script back in the early ’70s.
Star Wars Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni revealed that when he created this character, he had a Tom Baker-esque voice in mind. Filoni admitted to be a childhood fan of the fourth Doctor, describing Tom as “bigger than life… He’s so unique in everything he does.”
Filoni previously cast 10th Doctor David Tennant in The Clone Wars animated series as Huyang, a role that won him an Emmy.
