Both producer Kathleen Kennedy and director Gareth Edwards hinted this would be the case at Star Wars Celebration Europe this weekend.
“You know, we’re in the midst of talking about it, but I don’t think these films will have an opening crawl,” Kennedy told ET Online at Star Was Celebration Europe, referring to the Star Wars Story spin-off films. “I think that’s what we kind of telegraphed at the beginning of the event today.”
Rogue One director Gareth Edwards added that doing a crawl for a film that’s basically a screen adaptation of the crawl for Episode IV: A New Hope might be taking things a little too far: “There’s this feeling that if we did a crawl, then it’ll create another movie. And so the honest answer is you’ll have to wait and see.”
The animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie (2008) did not have a crawl either.
