In the brief “six months later” coda to Agents Of SHIELD season three, viewers were blitzed with a whole load of “WTF?” revelations (Holden Radcliffe creating life decoy androids, Daisy going rogue), but the one that made most fan really sit up with a start was when Phil Coulson – apparently demoted, but still in action for the agency – referred to someone else as “director”. Hang on…?
Quite what transpired in those six months is still unclear, but Marvel has at least now announced the same of the actor who’ll be playing the new director: Jason O’Mara.
You may have caught Irish born O’Mara in a number of shows. He was a lead in the expensive flop Terra Nova and also starred in Vegas and the US version of Life Of Mars. Before he went to the States he had recurring roles in UK dramas such as Playing The Field and Monarch Of The Glen. He’s also voiced Batman in Batman: Bad Blood, Justice League Vs Teen Titans and Justice League Dark.
“Bringing Jason into the mix as the new director of SHIELD forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the agency,” says executive producer and Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb. “Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.” [via Deadline]
