Alycia Debnam-Carey is excited about the new physical challenges she has been presented with in portraying teenaged daughter Alicia Clark on AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. The addition of more fight choreography and stunts has added a new dimension to her portrayal, as well as the challenge of being more exposed to the elements when filming.
“There was one episode where we were on sand dunes and I remember having to run up sand dunes for hours, and just thinking, ‘When will this end? My legs are so sore!’”
She shares how Alicia has had to grow up awfully fast not only because of the outbreak, but also because of the pre-established family dynamic that Alicia’s older brother Nick was the problem child and often demanding more attention from their mother. This lack of attention lead to some of Alicia’s rebellious actions seen in season one and season 2A.
“By episode seven in season two, Nick’s gone off again. But this time I think Alicia finally feels a sense of relief, that maybe her mother can finally accept that. However, it still creates tension and what I’m excited for people to see is how Alicia and Maddison’s relationship will start to play out.”
As Debnam-Carey has amassed a loyal fanbase, she is touched to learn that her fans were bombarding MyM BUZZ with enquiries about whether she’ll become more active on social media.
“Ultimately I have so much respect and love for all those fans who support me and hopefully they know that. Social media is just sort of one little branch of that but they should know that I respect and appreciate them so much.”
Fear The Walking Dead season 2B premieres in the UK on AMC Global exclusive to BT on 22 August at 9pm.
