DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow has added another superhero to its roster for the Justice Society of America in season two. According to Entertainment Weekly, Matthew MacCaull (Sebastian on iZombie, Tomorrowland) will be playing Commander Steel, aka Henry Heywood.
What’s especially intriguing about this announcement is that the show also recently revealed that Nick Zano has been cast as Commander Steel’s grandson Citizen Steel, aka Dr Nate Heywood. Do we sense the show’s time travel aspects coming into play here? In the comics, the adventures of the original Commander Steel – although debuting in 1978 – were set during World War II, so it’s not unlikely the TV show will follow a similar path. We also know that the Vixen who’ll appear in the Legends Of Tomorrow JSA line-up (played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers) is an ancestor of the present day Vixen, and the Justice Society first appeared in comics in 1940, so it’s possible we’ll be seeing a “period” version of the JSA. Or there are different line-ups in different periods.
Other JSA members for season two of Legends Of Tomorrow include Patrick J Adams as Hourman, along with the yet-to-be-cast Obsidian, Stargirl and Dr Mid-Nite.
