The wonderful Katie McGrath, who played Morganna in the BBC’s Merlin and was criminally underused in Jurassic World, has a new gig playing Lex Luthor’s sister Lena in a recurring role on Supergirl.
The CW has released this description of the show’s spin on the character: “Beautiful, powerful, and enigmatic, Lena arrives in National City on the heels of brother Lex’s incarceration hoping for a fresh start. Lena has taken over as CEO of her family’s billion-dollar-tech company, Luthor Corp, which has been tarnished by Lex’s evil infamy. Her goal? To re-brand the empire as a force for good. Lena wants to be seen as her own person, separate from her brother. Kara is drawn into Lena’s sphere and must determine if she is friend or foe.”
Lena first appeared in the comic Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane #23 (1961). She was previously seen on screen in Superboy (played by Jennifer Hawkins as younger version and Denise Gossett as an older version) and Smallville where Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman) learned she was actually Lena Luthor.
Katie is also a massive comics geek so she’s probably thrilled to get a role in the Arrowverse.
