Bizarre as it may sound, according to Variety (not an outlet known for spurious reporting) Brad Pitt is apparently trying to convince David Fincher to direct the sequel to zombie apocalypse movie World War Z.
JA Bayona directed the first film but he’s now off in Jurassic World. The first film was beset with production problem and the final act was significantly reshot but went on to be a surprise world wide smash.
However, you can’t help thinking that a zombie sequel is a little lowbrow for a director like Fincher with films like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Fight Club to his name. Also, Fincher hasn’t made a sequel since Alien 3 and his experience on that was fraught, to say the least.
However, Pitt and Fincher are frequent collaborators (Se7en, Fight Club, Benjamin Button) and according to Variety, Fincher “has always been open to listening to Pitt when the actor reaches out… Fincher and Pitt met two weeks ago to discuss the possibility of Fincher boarding the zombie tentpole. The talks were initially lukewarm, but sources now tell Variety that negotiations are much further down the road.”
Well, stranger things have happened.
