You’d think with season seven approaching and a death count that makes the bubonic plague look like an amateur, Game Of Thrones would be running out of respected British thesps to draw on. Especially when it casts someone like Ian McShane and kills him off after one episode.
And then they go and cast Jim Broadbent, and you go, “Blimey – it’s amazing he hasn’t been in the show already.”
Best known to global audiences for roles such as Professor Slughorn in the Harry Potter series as well as appearances in major films like The Legend Of Tarzan, Moulin Rouge, Cloud Atlas, Gangs Of New York, Time Bandits and Bridget Jones’s Diary he’s also had a hugely respected TV career, most recently with prestigious roles in War And Peace and the brilliant London Spy for the BBC.
His role in Game Of Thrones is as-yet undisclosed but is said to be “significant”, reports Entertainment Weekly. You could always try matching Broadbent to one of the new character descriptions listed here.
Game Of Thrones season seven will premiere in the summer of 2017.
