Although not giving many details – and not even specifying if his appearance is in Red Dwarf XI, which airs this year, or Red Dwarf XII which airs in 2017 – Buckley did say, “It was like Make A Wish. I felt like a little sick child. I was on set and to be in an episode… I can’t say too much but I don’t think you’ll recognise me. You’ll hear my voice but you won’t be able to recognise me. It was an absolute dream. And the four guys were so lovely to me. It was just really nice meeting them.
“What I maybe should have done is just watched an episode being made! Because I was on set just looking, going, ‘Oh my God, that’s the Cat! There’s Kryten!’
“I absolutely love Red Dwarf. Like, I read a few of the books when I was at school and I don’t read! So to be alongside that, it’s quite nice for me. I’m quite proud of that.”
Buckley, who plays Jay Cartwright in The Inbetweeners, also hopes this new sitcom, Zapped, can nabbed a bit of the Red Dwarf audience. In Zapped Buckley plays a data marketing executive who gets transported to another world. It begins on Dave on 13 October.
“Hopefully we can nick a bit of the Red Dwarf audience because I do feel they’re quite similar,” says Buckley.“ That’s what drew me to the project to begin with as well – a normal guy, surrounded by idiots, trying to get home.” [via Digital Spy]
