Empire has revealed two covers for its Doctor Strange issue (the second one is for subscribers, but we prefer the newsstand version, to be honest), featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme. They’ve chosen a really odd font for the main “DOCTOR STRANGE” coverline, though. It doesn’t say “strange”. It doesn’t say “comic book”. It says 1970s cinema advert for a local curry house.
The feature inside reveals that Marvel actually put back the release date for Doctor Strange because they were so desperate to have Cumberbatch in the role. The film was originally scheduled to come out last year but Cumberbatch had scheduling problems with his stint on stage as Hamlet. After briefly considering Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) for the role Marvel simply decided to delay the movie.
Doctor Strange is due for a UK release on 25 October.
