Amazon has given the greenlight for full series for all three of the comedies in its latest pilot season, which is great news because it means we’ll be seeing more of Ben Edlund’s rebooted superhero parody The Tick, which was huge fun and has bags of potential.
It also means there’ll be a full series of Jean Claude Van Johnson – starring Jean Claude Van Damme as a parody of himself in which it turns out he’s actually always been moonlighting as a secret agent as well as an actor – and I Love Dick… but nobody’s forcing us to watch any more of that dreary rom-com (not even the presence of Kevin Bacon helped).
The Tick was by far the best of the three, though, as we said in our review. It stars booming-voiced Peter Serafinowicz as the Big Blue Bug Of Justice (aka, The Tick), and the always excellent Jackie Earle Haley as his nemesis The Terror, with Griffin Newman as Arthur Everest, the everyday Joe whom The Tick decides to elevate to his sidekick… not that Arthur has much say in the matter.
It’s based on a comic that Edlund created when he was a teenager, which had already spawned a successful animated series and a not-so-successful (but still much-loved) live action series in 2001. It’s a cult fave and the new series will hopefully give it a whole new lease of life.
I Love Dick, Jean-Claude Van Johnson and The Tick will all premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in 2017 in the US, UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan for Amazon Prime members to watch as part of their membership.
