Marvel has revealed the names of three new characters who’ll be appearing in the Netflix series The Punisher, and the actors who’ll be playing them. Two of the character names will be very familiar to long-time readers of The Punisher comics.
We actually already knew that Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,) was in the show but now we know that he’ll be playing Billy Russo, Frank Castle’s best friend from his days in the Special Forces who runs a successful private military corporation called Anvil. In the comcs Billy Russo is the real name of villain Jigsaw (the character played by Dominic West in the film Punisher: War Zone) so presumably he’ll have some serious facial injuries at some point in the series (the way these Netflix series work, we’re guessing around episode 11).
Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls) will play Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle. In the comics Micro served as Castle’s weapons wrangler for many years.
Amber Rose Revah (Indian Summers, Son Of God) plays Dinah Madani, a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is trying to track down the Punisher.
(We also know from snapperazzi set photos revealed earlier in the week that… oh, you can read the story here if you don’t mind mild spoilers.)
“I’m really excited about the cast we’re assembling alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle,” says showrunner and executive producer Steve Lightfoot. “I look forward to watching Ben, Ebon and Amber embody these characters and breathe vivid life into the story we are crafting for this season of Marvel’s The Punisher.”
“We couldn’t be more thrilled about the remarkable talent joining Jon Bernthal in Marvel’s The Punisher,” says Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s TV boss. “Ebon, Ben and Amber are incredibly talented actors and we can’t wait to see them bring these characters to life.”
