Say hello to Mr Forgetful, Mr Loony, Mr Wavy-Arms and Mr Grumpy… or, in other words, Doctors One, Four, Eleven and Twelve from Doctor Who given a Mr Men makeover. And this isn’t some fan project on Deviant Art. This is 100 per cent official.
Eventually there’ll be Mr Men books for all twelve Doctors, written and drawn by Adam Hargreaves, the son of original Mr Men creator Roger Hargreaves. But first to go on sale will be Mr Men versions of the William Hartnell, Tom Baker, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi Doctors.
The first four books will be released in spring 2017.
The idea was prompted by a number of unofficial Mr Men mash-ups created by fans and posted online. Philip Jones, editor of The Bookseller, told BBC News: “Since the adult Ladybird books last year, there has been a market for ironic takes and mash-ups from old classics done with a new twist.”
The reboot of the Ladybird book series How It Works became a hit last year with the publication of new titles such as The Hangover, The Hipster and The Mid-Life Crisis.
