The move from CBS to The CW saw Supergirl’s viewing figures dip by a half… but this is actually not bad news.
Because viewing figures on The CW are significantly lower across the board, so a season two premiere figure of 3.024 million viewers is actually massive, giving The CW its highest ratings in that time slot in eight years and their highest-rated show ever in its time period among men. The final CBS episode achieved 6.11 million viewers.
On the other hand Supergirl’s CW premiere fell just short of The Flash’s season three premiere ratings on the network last week – 3.2 million total viewers – which must be slightly galling, especially with the huge publicity surrounding Superman’s debut on Supergirl.
But the network’s boss Mark Pedowitz had previously stated, “If it pulls half of the CBS audience, it will be our number one or number two show… If it does less than that, I’d be extraordinarily disappointed.” So for the moment he’s presumably happy; let’s hope the numbers don’t nosedive.
While we’re in a Supergirl frame of mind, below are a trailer for episode 2.02 and a photo gallery for episode 2.03, with more images of Linda Carter as President Olivia Marsdin.
Also, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has been telling Entertainment Weekly a little about how Kara will be involved in the big four-way Arrowverse crossover: “Some people, like Barry, already know her, so Barry’s completely cool with her. Some people are instantly charmed by her; I think Sara’s got a little crush on her… [Oliver is] keeping his distance, which is a very Oliver thing to do. Even Kara comments, ‘Does he not like me?’ Barry’s like, ‘No, that’s kind of how he treats everybody.’”
