It’s been rumoured for a while now it’s official: Community’s Donald Glover (he played Troy in the cult comedy) is set to play the young Lando Calrissian in the untitled Han Solo Star Wars anthology film, Disney has confirmed.
Glover will join Alden Ehrenreich who’ll be Han Solo in the film, which is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie).
Disney statement reveals that the “new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to rebel hero in Return Of The Jedi.”
“We”re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” add directors Lord and Miller, “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologise to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
While coming to fame in Community, Glover has also appeared in films like Magic Mike XXL and The Martian and will soon be seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He also created and stars in the critically acclaimed FX series Atlanta and was a writer/story editor on 30 Rock.
