Sony has put a movie based on the Uncharted game franchise on the fast track, and has revealed the director who’ll be bringing the action to screen. That director will be Shawn Levy of Stranger Things, Night At The Museum and (the criminally under-appreciated) Real Steel fame.
Joe Carnahan (Narc, The Grey) is writing the script which will be based on the first game in the series – Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in which a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nathan Drake, learns the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue.
The next big question about the has to be: who will play Nathan Drake? Fans of the game series are bound to respond Nolan North, who provides the voice and motion capture for the character in the game, but it’s almost certain he’s not a big enough name for a Hollywood action blockbuster. There was a time when Castle’s Nathan Fillion was another fan favourite for the role, and as the star of Castle for eight seasons he’s certainly a name now, but may be a little too old.
It’d be nice to think that the film could find roles for North and Emily Rose (who voices and performance captures Elena Fisher in the games) in some capacity in the film. Both of them are at MCM London Comic Con this weekend so we’ll ask them what they think.
