Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant spent five seasons garnering a loyal fan following for their roles on the Syfy series Haven. Nathan and Audrey’s love story brought romance, while the Troubles delivered action and science-fiction mystery. The finale proved somewhat polarising to the audience. Bryant admits to having some reservations upon first reading the final script but has warmed to it over time.
“I feel many ways about how the show wrapped up. Initially I wasn’t sure about it. When I first read it, I was doubting. I didn’t know how I felt about it but the longer I get from it, the more that time passes, the more right I feel about it. It was a full circle, literally. The story ended in a mirror of the opening scene of the way we met so there was beautiful symmetry there.”
Throughout the run of the relationship between Nathan and Audrey, another divisive moment came when Nathan had a fling with one of the other “versions” of Audrey, Sarah. But Rose describes it as a significant turning point for the relationship between Audrey and Nathan.
“Even though that wasn’t an Audrey-Nathan moment, it was an aspect of Audrey and it was an opportunity for Nathan and a way to kind of live that reality without the direness of the world ending right there so I always thought that was a really sweet, special moment between the two of them even though it was Sarah and it was weird.”
Haven was also home to many significant guest-stars, some of which ended up staying for longer than originally intended. Few would deny that the most significant guest-star was William Shatner, who had a memorable four-episode arc on the final season. As most of his scenes were with Rose, she had much to say about the experience of working with him and having him on set.
“He is such a pro. You usually think that people who’ve been doing this a long time don’t have to be pros anymore, and he is a pro. To be able to sit and be running lines with him and he’s running the next two days of lines, he’s so impressive.”
