Sean Astin (The Lord Of The Rings), Linnea Berthelsen and Paul Reiser (Whiplash, Mad About You) have all joined the cast of Stranger Things season two, reports Entertainment Weekly. Astin and Reiser also have iconic ’80s films on their CVs (The Goonies and Aliens respectively) so they’ll be right at home in the ’80s-homaging series.
Danish Actress Berthelsen, however, is a Hollywood newcomer and, according to EW, she’ll play a woman named Roman, “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab.”
Reiser, will play Dr. Owens, “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.”
And Astin will play Bob Newby, “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.”
The three of them join returning stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine. Other new additions to the cast for season two include Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery (the Red Ranger in the upcoming Power Rangers movie).
Stranger Things season two will be nine episodes long and set in 1984. It will debut some time in 2017 on Netflix.
