While some fans are outraged at the “whitewashing” of anime icon Major Kusanagi in the Hollywood live action version of Ghost In The Shell, the director of the anime version, Mamori Oshii, doesn’t seem unduly bothered. In this new behind-the-scenes featurette he enthuses that Scarlett Johansson “has gone above and beyond my expectations for the role” of the Kusanagi. “I’m sure this will be the most gorgeous film in the series so far,” he goes on to say. Conspiracy theorists will, of course, be scrutinising the footage to see if Oshii’s pockets are stuffed full of dollar bills. We think he’s just got a big crush on Scarlett Johansson.
There’s a new trailer for the film due on Sunday. The film’s released in the UK on 31 March 2017.
