The CW has ordered four extra episodes of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, taking the second season run from 13 to 17 episodes.
This is actually more significant news than it might at first appear. Although it might seem odd that Legends isn’t getting a 22-23 episode season like its Arrowverse sister shows, the fact that the CW has increased its run is a huge sign of confidence in the show. Why? Because the network already has a number of shows that are ready to start midseason: The Originals, iZombie, The 100, Reign and newcomer Riverdale.
With the network needing to schedule all those shows, the easy option would have been simply to leave the second season at 13 episodes rather than order an extra month of episodes that will need to be accommodated. But the reality is, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow might be least well-performing Arrowverse show but it’s still pulling in double the viewers of the networks new shows No Tomorrow and Frequency.
So, congrats to the Legends Of Tomorrow cast and crew. Make the most of those extra four episodes!
