FX’s TV series based on one of the most highly-praised comic books of all time, Y: The Last Man, takes a step closer to reality with the announcement that the network has hired American Gods co-showrunnner Michael Green to shorwun the adaptation. [via The Hollywood Reporter]
Green, whose other credits include Heroes and Smallville, will co-write the script for the pilot episode with series creator Brian K Vaughn (we’re quite glad someone’s helpingVaughn with the script because while the Y comic is a masterpiece, Vaughn’s previous big TV scripting gig was Under The Dome which was a pretty dire amalgam of TV clichés from its pilot onwards…)
Y: The Last Man, first published in 2002, is the post-apocalyptic story Yorick Brown, and his capuchin monkey Ampersand, the only males to survive a global even that kills off every living creature with a Y chromosome. It is a comic book’s connoisseur’s comic book and Chuck Bartowski in Chuck was a huge fan. The heinous Zach in The Strain was also seen reading a copy of the graphic novel in a recent episode.
News of the TV version first surfaced a year ago, but now it looks like it may finally happen.
