Star Trek: Discovery consulting producer Nicholas Meyer (the man who directed Star Trek II and Star Trek VI as well as writing Star Trek IV… all the good ones, then) has revealed that Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon’s Michelle Yeoh has been cast in the upcoming CBS All Access series.
“I know Michelle Yeoh is in it,” Meyer told Coming Soon during a press event for his 1979 film Time After Time which was released on Blu-ray last week in the States. He did not confirm if she would be taking the leading role, which in a break with tradition won”t be the captain, but rather a Lieutenant Commander. It seems likely, although we could also see Yeoh as a captain. Who’s to say that just because the lead on the show is a woman the captain can’t be as well?
Yeoh recently reprised her Yu Shu Lien for the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel, Sword of Destiny for Netflix. She also played Lotus in the second season of Marco Polo.
Star Trek: Discovery is due to debut in the States late spring next year.
