Coming Soon has scored a real scoop with this pre-viz animatic sequence for the new YS X-Men movie spin-off New Mutants (to be directed by The Fault In Our Stars helmer Josh Boone). As the site points out, this is all preproduction material so there’s no guarantee the big action sequence in question will make it into the final film. However, it does appear to confirm that the film will feature Demon Bear, a villain who first trouble the teen superhero team way back in New Mutants #3 (1983)
Director Josh Boone has called New Mutants as the YA version of X-Men, while Coming Soon describes it as “Stephen King meets John Hughes-style horror movie… a comparison that might make people think of this summer’s hit series Stranger Things, albeit with even more super powers.”
The roster of superheroes includes Warlock, a techno-organic being capable of changing size and shapes; Magik, sister of Colossus and a powerful sorceress who can teleport; Sunspot, who can absorb and channel solar radiation to both fly and create energy blasts; Cannonball, who can fly using propulsive energy; Dani Moonstar aka Cheyenne/Mirage, who can visualise other’s thoughts, especially their fears; and Wolfsbane, a Scottish werewolf. Casting has yet to be confirmed.
