Here’s a new poster for Alien: Covenant with an ominous one-word tag line and an image of an alien head clearly lit to evoke memories of the alien egg on the poster for the original Alien (1979). The poster also reveals something else rather significant: a new release date. Alien: Covenant was previously set to hit the big screen on 4 August 2017 (that was the official UK release date as well as the US one). It will now arrive on May 19 (so presumably that’s in bot the UK and the US as well).
Alien: Covenant is both a sequel to Prometheus (2012) and a prequel to Alien (1979). It is rumoured to feature a new breed of alien called the neomorphs (more on that here) and Michael Fassbender paying two androids (more on that here).
Alien: Covenant begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Alien: Covenant also stars Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Jussie Smolett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), and Billy Crudup (Watchmen). Noomi Rapace is also rumoured to cameo as Dr Elizabeth Shaw from Prometheus. Rodley Scott once again directs.
