Ho! Ho! Ho! Christmas is coming and Santa will soon be doing his rounds. But in sci-fi & fantasy fiction, he’s more likely to be Saint Clickolas than Saint Nicholas. Whether they’re scary mechanical Santas blasting down chimneys or friendlier ’bots getting into the festive (white) spirit, mechanical Father Christmases put the AI into Saint Nick.
(And yes, this is a repeat but it’s Christmas – think of it as our Wizard Of Oz featutre.)
1 Santa Prime & Other Little Transformer Helpers
Although we’ve yet to see the Michael Bay-directed Transformers Christmas movie (Transformers: Clear And Presents Danger, it probably won’t be called) the robots have disguised themselves as Santa a number of times in the comics and cartoons. Optimus Prime dressed as Father Christmas for the office party in Marvel UK’s Transformers #41 (1985, above left and below) while Grimlock transformed into Grim Claus to answer the letters in Transformers #145 (1987). Meanwhile, in the animated episode “Human Error, Part II” (2009) Wreck-Gar stuck on a Santa hat and white beard and went around handing out garbage to all the good little children of Detroit.
