Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has been teasing what’s coming up for Lena Luther, Kara and Mon-El’s relationship, Alex and Eliza’s relationship and Cadmus in the second part of the show’s second season, while speaking to Entertainment Weekly.
“We have absolutely not seen the last of Lillian and Cadmus,” he says, referring to the fact that Lena betrayed her mum, Cadmus boss Lillian, in the midseason finale and got her locked up. “Sometimes an enemy is deadliest when they are trapped. How Lillian deals with her incarceration and what happens moving forward will make up part of the storyline of the next batch of episodes. But Cadmus is a multi-tiered organisation, and like the worst terrorist groups, you cut down one head, another rises in its place.”
As for Lena’s true nature, Kreisberg teases, “I don’t want to say definitively, because this season is all about testing Lena. She’s passed the goodness tests that have been placed in front of her up until now, but you always have to wonder if there is going to be a bridge too far for her where she will inherit the Luthor mantle of being a true enemy for Supergirl.”
Then there’s the aftermath – or lack of it – of the kiss between Kara and Mon-El that they both appear to be in denial about now. “The chemistry between Chris and Melissa is definitely palpable, and we’re loving writing their characters together. The next episode is a big Kara/Mon-El story that we’re really excited about. They’re both obviously playing coy about what happened, neither admitting that they actually did kiss, so how and when that comes out is going to be fun and delicious.”
On the new relationship between Alex and Maggie, he says, “The chemistry between Chyler and Floriana, if you could bottle and sell that, you could rule the world. They so deserve to be together, but like any great couple, they had to get past their own stuff to finally get there… It was really important for us to progress this relationship along and to have it pay off everything that came before it. Everyone who works on this show loves Alex Danvers and wants good things for her and Maggie, so we decided to go for it.”
Kreisberg also reveals that there are some aliens on the hunt for Mon-El.
Supergirl returns to UK screens on Sky One early in the new Year Geektown thinks 30 January but that’s TBC).
