Although the world spent four days praying and hoping that Star Wars’ Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher would not become another victim of the curse of 2016, sadly she passed away today in Los Angeles aged 60, following a heart attack.
It is a devastating loss, not just of a cinematic legend who was at the forefront of a new breed of feisty, strong-willed heroines, but an accomplished wordsmith and mighty wit. Any interview with Carrie Fisher was guaranteed to be an acerbic delight.
She was also in the process of winning a whole new generation of fans with her appearances in the Star Wars sequels. According to Deadline, the actress had already completed her work for Star Wars: Episode VIII, and it is a larger role than in The Force Awakens, so at least we’ll have one last performance from Carrie Fisher to treasure when the film is releases next December.
It will be a bittersweet experience for us all.
Carrie Fisher – you were a true star.
