Here’s the new trailer and poster for Rings, a sequel to the 2002 American remake of the 1998 Ringu. It’s not the first US sequel; there was The Ring Two (2005) and even a short film also called Rings (2005) which was released as an extra on a special DVD rerelease of The Ring. Now, 11 years later, we get this new Rings, which, despite the shared title, has nothing to do with that 2005 short aside from being part of the same franchise.
Rings is directed by F Javier Gutiérrez and written by David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes and Akiva Goldsman. Here’s the official blurb:
“A new chapter in the beloved Ring horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…”
We’ve got to admit, the tagline on the poster is a little ominous. We think they ought to have made it clear they’re not talking about watching the film itself. Unless it’s a big dare… like getting people to say Candyman five times while looking in a mirror. Then again, if you watch the film, then you are going to die at some point… hopefully a good long while afterwards, but you death will catch up with you one day. So it’s not an entirely empty boast.
