The CW has confirmed rumours that it’s developing a Charmed reboot, but have also revealed a twist that nobody was expecting – it’ll be set in the ’70s.
The original show ran for eight seasons on the WB channel from 1998 to 2006, based in a then-contemporary setting. It originally centred on three sisters – Prue, Piper and Phoebe Halliwell (played by Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano respectively) – who happen to come from a family of witches. Doherty left after season three, to be replaced by Rose McGowan as the Halliwell’s younger half-sister, Paige Matthews, and the show continued quite happily under the new line-up for a further five seasons (which is why we’ve used that trio in the main pic – plus, we really liked Rose McGowan).
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new show will kick off in 1976. There’s no news on casting or a showrunner yet but the pilot script is being written by the Jane the Virgin team of Jessica O’Toole, Amy Rardin and Jennie Snyder Urman.
What next? Sabrina The Teenage Witch rebooted in the ’60s? Actually… that could work!
