Ever since Fox’s The X-Files revival proved a ratings hit early last year, Fox has made it perfectly clear that it would happily commission more episodes… if it could manage to find a way to find corresponding holes in the show’s two star’s schedules. Both David Duchovny (Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Scully) are very busy thesps so it wasn’t going to be easy.
But not impossible apparently. Because according to Entertainment Weekly, Fox president David Madden told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Wednesday that while the deal-making is “complex”, the network expects “to have an announcement shortly”.
EW goes on to say that Madden later told them that he’d hoped to be able to make an announcement on Wednesday, but the the final signature hadn’t quite signed on the line in time. So, it sounds like it’s that close.
Apparently Fox is hoping to announce more than the six episodes that constituted season 10 but don’t expect a full 22-episode run.
