While nobody really takes the Razzies – officially the Annual Golden Raspberry Awards – seriously any more (they rarely nominate “the worst”, these days, so much as “the blockbusters that weren’t blockbustery enough and need taking down a peg or two”) it still manages to cause a stir each year when the nominations are announced. And this year it’s boldly prodding an ants’ nest and opening old wounds with cheeky glee: Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has been nominated eight times.
Batman V Superman was nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Actor (both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill were nominated), Worse Supporting Actor (Jesse Eisenberg), Worst Screen Combo, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay (for which Suicide Squad is also nominated).
However, it wasn’t the most nominated film. That dubious honour goes to Zoolander 2 with nine nominations.
Dirty Grandpa, Independence Day: Resurgence, Gods Of Egypt and Alice: Through the Looking Glass all had a few nominations each. To be completely honest, we’re shocked Gods Of Egypt didn’t top the list, but it’s not as much fun kicking a film that already well and truly down. Much better to kick Batman V Superman because it’ll get more headlines.
Oops, we fell for that…
Hell, we were no fans of Batman V Superman as you can tell from our review, but the nominations for Affleck, Cavill and Eisenberg are all stretching a bit too far for the sake of a grudge.
