Fox has been pretty bullish about getting a US “R” rating for Logan ever since Deadpool proved that a bloody, swearing, nudey superhero film could be a box office smash. The red band trailers (especially that already infamous shot above from the first trailer) pretty much made the R-rating a shoo-in, and you get the feeling if they hadn’t got one there would have been reshoots to add more gore and nipples until they did.
But now it’s official, because director James Mangold has Tweeted the following:
Official: Please be advised that LOGAN has been rated R for “strong brutal violence and language throughout, and for brief nudity.”

Let’s just hope the brief nudity isn’t Stephen Merchant or Patrick Stewart, eh? A US R-rating means the film will almost definitely be a 15 over here in the UK.
In a previous interview, Mangold promised that the R-rating has meant he can deliver, “more of something that fans have been asking for, for a really long time. We’ve been limited in one way or another from giving it to them, but I think we’ve got the go-ahead to really go for it on this picture. So we’re really trying to deliver what folks have always imagined those kind of battles would look like. There is a lot of high-octane action in the movie. We’re just trying to do it very differently and very viscerally.”
