The devil’s not leaving Los Angeles any time soon (or that weird alternate Los Angeles that looks a lot like Vancouver, anyway).
The US FOX has announced that Lucifer will be back for a third season of the devilish fun and good old-fashioned smut. And it’ll be a full run of 22 episodes, starting later this year. In the meantime we’ve still got the remainder of season two – six more episodes – to enjoy when it returns from an inexplicably long three-month hiatus in May. After such a long gap, some people might that that’s the start of season three.
The show star Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, who bails out on Hell and manages an LA nightclub instead, moonlighting as a special advisor to the LA police because he’s fascinated by a cop, Chloe Decker (Lauren German), who may, just may, have been placed in Earth especially for him. But then it gets a whole lot more complicated when his mum, God’s ex, and bro’, the angel Amenadiel turn up as well.
“Lucifer is one of those rare shows that starts strong out of the gate, and just keeps getting better and better,” says David Madden, president, entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Tom, Lauren and the entire cast have really made these characters three-dimensional, and the production team is one of the best in the business. We’d also like to thank our partners Warner Bros. for their commitment to this show and we look forward to seeing where this wildly innovative series takes us in season three.”
The shows also stars Rachael Harris as a sassy shrink who realises she’s trying to analyse Satan, DB Woodside as the angel Amenadiel, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Lucifer’s kinky demon sidekick Maze, Kevin Alejandro as Detective Douche (not his real name) and Tricia Helfer as the ex-Mrs God.
The next episode in May (Fox is calling it a “Spring Premiere”), called “Candy Morningstar”, Lucifer has gone off the grid and cut off all contact from his family and the police department, following Chloe’s (Lauren German) near-death. But the murder of an up-and-coming guitarist causes him to resurface – with a new mystery woman. Meanwhile, Lucifer’s mom (Tricia Helfer) realises she may have found a way to finally get them back to Heaven.
