If you can forget the claims whitewashing and ignore the odd cliché (“Everything they told you… is a lie!” “They created me but they cannot control me”) then you’re rewarded with some astounding visuals that have been created for the live-action Ghost In The Shell. If the storytelling is even half as inventive as the original manga and anime, we could be seeing one of the most totally immersive, full-on sci-fi films since Blade Runner.
Set for release on 31 March 31, Ghost in the Shell explores the question – what if machines could hack the human mind? Directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White And The Huntsman) it’s based on the manga series of the same name by Masamune Shirow. It stars Scarlett Johansson as Major Kusanagi, Beat Takeshi Kitano as Daisuke Aramaki, Juliette Binoche as Dr Ouelet, Michael Pitt as Kuze, Pilou Asbæk as Batou and Kaori Momoi.
