Coming across like Michel Gondry meets Godzilla, Colossal looks like it could be one of those quirky genres films that fans laps up and, gasp, proper critics like as well. It’s been written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo who performed the same duties on the hugely enjoyable Spanish time travel movie Timecrimes (2007), and who also scripted the wonderful Extraterrestrial (2011) a film that truly shows how the average Earthlings would react during an alien invasion (and has the best tennis-ball-related scene in film history).
Colossal stars Anne Hathaway as Gloria an out-of-work girl who, after getting kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and move back to her hometown. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, South Korea, Gloria gradually realises that she is somehow connected to the beast.
Below is the new trailer, and we’d be surprised if you weren’t well and truly intrigued by the end of it. It’s released in US in April, but, sadly, at the moment there is no official UK release date so keep your eye on the film festival circuit.
