While predictions made by political pollsters are becoming notoriously unreliable, the number crunchers who track potential box office figures still tend to be pretty accurate. In which case it looks like 20th Century Fox may have a hit on their hands with Logan.
The James Mangold-directed threequel is on course to open in the US in the $55 to $60 million dollar range, according to The Wrap. That’s would also be an improvement on The Wolverine, which grossed $53 million back in 2013, and even more impressive when you factor in that Logan is an R-rate film which restricts its potential audience. Which is also our excuse why it’s not a better opening weekend than X-Men Origins: Wolverine had… ($85 million) but let’s sweep that fact under the carpet. Or call it fake news, or something.
Logan needs to do well in its first weekend as it faces tough competition for the remainder of March, with Kong: Skull Island and Beauty And The Beast also coming out.
Logan is released in the UK on 3 March.
