Right, we’re not saying he’s getting typecast, but Iwan Rheon, who until recently (when his character was eaten by his own dogs) played the deranged Ramsay Bolton in Game Of Thrones, has now landed to the role of Maximus The Mad in Marvel’s Inhumans. It’s his eyes. We blame the piercing eyes.
Maximus, in the comics, is the devious half-brother of King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt. Think Loki with less charisma and more cruelty. In the series, he will apparently be a clever and charming Inhuman with mind control abilities who is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan (home of the Inhumans), especially his brother, the King – although he harbours an intense desire to wear the crown himself.
Rheon is aslo famous for playing time travelling hoodie hero Simon in E4’s brilliant Misfits.
“Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board,” says Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and executive producer.
“Maximus is a complex character,” says executive producer and showrunner Scott Buck. “Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent.”
Director Roel Reiné (Death Race 2) is set to helm the two-part pilot of Marvel’s Inhumans which will be filmed entirely with IMAX digital cameras, and released worldwide in IMAX cinemas for two weeks at the beginning of September 2017. The series proper will then premiere on ABC in the States in the autumn.
