Suicide Squad star and director Will Smith and David Ayer have reteamed for another fantasy movie, but not one you’ll see at the cinema. Bright is a Netflix original and with names like the on board you realise how far Netflix has come as an entertainment powerhouse in the past few years. The script is by somebody you may have heard of too, the delightfully divisive Max Landis, the man behind Chronicle, Victor Frankenstein and BBC America’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Other stars include Joel Edgerton (Black Mass, Exodus: Gods &n Kings), Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), Edgar Ramírez (The Bourne Ultimatum), Ike Barinholtz (Suicide Squad) and Brad William Henke (Orange Is the New Black).
Bright is set in a world where “magical creatures live side by side with humans and the police have a division handling crimes involving magic”. Will Smith plays a human cop who is forced to work with an Orc (Joel Edgerton) to find something that “unsavoury elements are prepared to kill for – a powerful wand.”
So, it’s a fantasy version of Alien Nation, then.
Bright will debut on the streaming service in December.
