Ken Leung – Miles in Lost, Dr Topher Zia in The Night Shift and Leon Tao in far too few episodes of Person Of Interest – has landed a role in Marvel’s Inhumans as Karnak.
Karnak in the show’s character notes is described as “Male. 30-40. Open. Slight of build, his mind is his greatest asset. Always prepared with a plan, his outlook on life is the glass is always half-empty and often cracked and dirty as well. Though his outlook can be grim he has a droll, dry sense of humour.”
Leung sounds perfect!
In the comics, Karnak is Black Bolt’s cousin and younger brother to Triton. He’s got superhuman strength, endurance, and speed and he can spot and exploit the weakness in any object. In the early days of the comics he did this by karate-chopping said objects at their weakspots. We kinda hope he does this in the series. Unlike other Inhumans he didn’t gain his powers from exposure to the Terrigen Mists.
“Ken brings both a wisdom and a power to the role that no one else could match. His Karnak will be awesome,” says Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb said.
Showrunner Scott Buck adds: “Ken Leung has a great natural intelligence that reads clearly and will add depth and complexity to the very complicated character of Karnak.”
He joins a cast that includes Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan (Graceland) as Medusa, and Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones, Misfits) as Maximus.
Any bets on who’ll be announced next? Gorgon? Crystal? Triton? We’re kinda guessing it won’t be Lockjaw… though we’d LOVE it if it is!
