Hugh Jackman’s final bow as Wolverine in Logan is proving to be box office gold, despite its potentially restrictive R-rating/15 rating.
Globally Logan has made $237.9 million so far. $85.3 million of that came from North America with a further $152.5 million coming from overseas territories.
Thay $152.5 million international figure is Fox’s third biggest international opening after X-Men: Days Of Future Past and Avatar. Logan was number one in China with $46.3 million, the UK ($11.4 million), South Korea ($8.2 million), Brazil ($8.2 million) and Russia ($7.1 million).
In North America the film’s $85.3 million was the biggest opening in March for an R-rated movie (beating 300 way back in 2006, with $70 million). It is also a bigger haul for an opening weekend than either of the previous Wolverine films, though it lagged some way behind Deadpool’s $132.5 million opening weekend (and that film was also an R).
The prospects for Logan continuing to have a good run at box office looks good from the word-of-mouth point of view; it received an A- CinemaScore from audiences in North America. Though you have to wonder who wasn’t giving it an A – disgruntled Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice fans still holding a grudge, perhaps? (NB – we KNOW this isn’t the case, we’re just turning their own conspiracy theories back on them.)
