Netflix has released a teaser trailer for its new US TV movie version of the notorious manga Death Note, which features a lot of Nat Wolff as Light, but sadly only mere hints of Ryuk (who’ll be CG but voiced by Willem Dafoe, whose voice we do here, chillingly asking, “Shall we begin?”). It all looks very stylish and atmospheric , even if Wolf isn’t quite our idea of Light (surname Turner in this version rather than Yagmi) he’ll probably grow on us.
In case you don’t know, Death Note is about a bored god, Ryuk, who lets a supernatural note pad fall into the hands of a youth, Light; any person whose name is written in the note pad will soon die in real life. At first Light has lofty ideals to punish only wrongdoers but you know what they say about power corrupting?
Directed by Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest), Death Note will premiere globally on Netflix on 25 August.
